Rangers moved top of the Scottish Premier League for the first time since Boxing Day with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
After blowing the chance to move top by losing 3-2 to Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday, Walter Smith’s side bounced back well against St Johnstone on Tuesday, taking the lead through a Kyle Lafferty goal on the 20-minute mark.
Steven Naismith doubled their advantage seven minutes from the end with a shot from the edge of the box that left Saints goalkeeper Peter Enckelman with no chance.
The result continues a miserable run of form for St Johnstone, who are eighth in the league and have scored only one goal in their past eight league games.
The win moves Rangers one point above bitter rivals Celtic in the race for the title, although the Celts have played one game fewer after their clash with Inverness on Saturday was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
