Rangers saw off a tense finale in a bruising 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday.

Kyle Lafferty came on for the injured Steven Naismith and opened the scoring for Rangers on 58 minutes before Nikica Jelavic’s penalty made it 2-0.

Ricky Foster’s thumping 25-yard shot passed through Allan McGregor’s fingers to provide hope for Aberdeen before Rory Fallon was given his second yellow in extra time for Dons.

Aberdeen’s Rob Milsom and Naismith suffered nasty leg injuries in the clash that made it seven away league wins on the trot for Rangers.

Celtic squandered another chance to at least keep pace with their rivals in an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Celtic Park.

The draw sees Celtic 12 points adrift of leaders Rangers with Gary Hooper and James Forrest coming closest for the Glasgow giants.

Tom Hateley’s late free-kick gifted Motherwell a precious 3-2 win at bottom club Inverness. The win sees them consolidate second spot, three points ahead of Celtic.

Andrew Shinnie put Inverness ahead 14 minutes from time but Keith Lasley replied within the minute and Hateley scored the winner.

Kilmarnock scored a controversial 1-0 win away at Hearts with manager Paulo Sergio sent to the stands for the home side.

Hearts had to play much of the match with ten men when Ian Black was sent from the pitch 16 minutes in. Hearts dominated most of the first half but conceded a penalty on 55 minutes which Dean Shiels converted for Kilmarnock.

St Johnstone suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to St Mirren with Kenny McLean’s 81st-minute intervention providing the only goal of the game.
