Competition: MLS
Market: Seattle Sounders win
Odds: 19/10 @ Bet 365
Although it has been far from a convincing start for last years Western Conference runners-ups Seattle Sounders, Brian Schmetzer’s side are hoping to mount a late playoff push and his revitalized squad will travel to San Jose on Thursday.
Starting with Mikael Stahre’s San Jose side, while The Earthquakes are coming off the back of a 0-0 draw with Manchester United in their US pre-season tour, the hosts are now without a win in any competition since the start of May and are now tipped by many to take the wooden spoon in the Western Conference. Now more worryingly without a win at the Avaya Stadium since the start of March, along with losing the reverse meeting 3-0 earlier in the season, it is their defensive issues that are the biggest cause for concern. The Earthquakes have now not recorded an MLS clean sheet in their last 24 outings.
As for Brian Schmetzer’s side, although they have been arguably the most disappointing side in the MLS this year, last years runners-ups have recently begun to put in some eye-catching performances. Coming off the back of a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps last time out, The Sounders are now unbeaten in their last four MLS appearances and are planning a late push for the Top Six. While attacking midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro now has three in his last two, it is their defensive record that has been the most impressive. The Greens have kept a clean sheet in two of their last three and hold one of the best records in either conference.
