Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates has agreed to join Sporting Lisbon from Sunderland, O Jogo has learned.
The former Liverpool defender arrives on loan until the end of the season, with a €5 million buy-out option also included in the deal.
Sebastian Coates began the current season as a first team regular at the Stadium of Light, but lost his place in the side at the turn of the year and has now been allowed to leave the club.
He will get the opportunity to kick start his career at Estadio da Luz, as well as fight for his first league trophy in Europe, with the Lions currently leading the chase in Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Sebastian Coates made a total of 26 Premier League appearances for Sunderland since joining from Liverpool, but clearly failed to prove his worth at the Stadium of Light.
The centre-back, nonetheless, remains an important member of the Uruguay national team, and he started two 2018 World Cup qualifiers for La Celeste.
