Toronto FC have agreed a deal to sign Italian forward Sebastian Giovincofrom Juventus, Canadian media outlet Sportsnet understands.
The MLS side beat a number of Europe’s top sides to the striker’s signature, having reportedly offered him a contract worth $7 million per campaign.
Giovinco is expected to join Toronto FC at the end of the European season, given that his current deal with Juventus is due to expire on 30th June.
The MLS side representatives have refused to comment on the Sportsnet story, but it is widely expected that the official announcement will be made soon.
Should the deal go through, it will prove to be a major coup for the Canadian side, who have just stayed without striker Jermain Defoe as he joined Sunderland.
Nevertheless, with Jozy Altidore joining and USMNT star Michael Bradley already in the team, Toronto FC chiefs have every reason to feel optimistic ahead of the start of another MLS campaign.
