New Zealand striker Wood sealed victory for Birmingham when he rounded Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to score with six minutes remaining.
The win was Birmingham’s fourth from nine Championship matches played this season, and their third consecutive victory in all competitions.
For Sven Goran Eriksson’s big-spending Leicester, it was a first defeat in eight matches, and leaves a side aiming for automatic promotion in 13th place, already seven points behind leaders Southampton.
