AC Milan’s Clarence Seedorf believes Lionel Messi is the world’s best footballer, but thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is not far behind.
Serie A champions Milan meet La Liga counterparts Barca at the San Siro in Group H of the Champions League on Wednesday, and veteran midfielder Seedorf is looking forward to the challenge of taking on Messi.
The Argentine forward has a keen rivalry with Real Madrid captain Cristiano Ronaldo, but Messi gets Seedorf’s vote – just.
“Lionel Messi is the best player in the world. He plays at a very high level and he is a joy to watch for everybody,” Seedorf said to Cope.
“However, Cristiano Ronaldo is not far behind him. He has already done a lot for Real Madrid and is very important.”
The Dutchman then went on to stress that Milan are not one of leading contentions to win the Champions League, putting several clubs ahead of his side’s own claims for Europe’s top club prize this season.
“It’s clear that we are not the favourites. I’d say that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United are the main candidates to win the Champions League,” he said.
