Villarreal CF have been dealt another significant injury blow after Marcos Senna was ruled out of Wednesday’s second leg against Arsenal FC with a left hamstring problem.
The Spanish international picked up the knock in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Málaga CF, limping off ten minutes from time as his side, having already made their three permitted substitutions, were left to play out the match with ten men. Senna will undergo tests to examine the extend of the injury but according to Villarreal’s website he will miss the conclusion of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Arsenal Stadium. The midfielder scored the opening goal in a 1-1 first-leg draw at El Madrigal last week.
“Our injury problems are making life difficult,” admitted coach Manuel Pellegrini, who also has doubts over Mati Fernández (left ankle) and Cani (thigh). Santi Cazorla has already been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
