September 7th: Saturday’s English Accumulator – 6/1

While the Premier League might have taken an early fortnight break due to September’s international break, the rest of England’s elite professional tiers will steal centre stage.

With the likes of League One high-flyers Wrexham looking to extend on their unbeaten start, we have plenty of intriguing showdowns from across England’s third and fourth tiers respectively.

So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have taken a look at some of the best English betting markets that are available.

Saturday, September 7th

BST 15:00 Wrexham vs Shrewsbury

While Wrexham might have only made their famous League One return for this season, the Red Dragons are in the midst of a public fairytale. Continuing on an astonishing rise and receiving a string of plaudits, Phil Parkinson’s men have once again come flying out of the traps this time around. Last seen putting in another eye-catching performance as they secured a 2-0 victory away at Peterborough, the former Bolton boss will be calling on his squad to make another statement here. Storming their way to a stellar 3-0 romp at home against Reading on August 24th, Wrexham have registered 10 points from their first four League One appearances. It should also be highlighted, Parkinson’s high-flying squad have recorded a clean sheet in all of their last three consecutive showdowns. Suffering just a single competitive defeat at the Racecourse Ground since the start of February, the Dragons are pencilled in as a landslide contender here.

Managing to make what was crucial return to winning ways last weekend as they secured a 3-0 victory away at Leyton Orient, Shrewsbury will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, still scrapping it out at the foot of the League One table, Paul Hurst’s men have lost four of their previous five appearances across all competitions. Getting proceedings underway on August 10th with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Stevenage, Saturday’s guests couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge this weekend. Getting their EFL Trophy adventure underway on August 20th with a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Fulham’s U21s, Shrewsbury have continued to show some glaring issues on their travels on either side of the summer break. Two sides who are expected to be battling it out at opposite ends of the League One table this season, we are backing a home victory on Saturday afternoon.

Tip: Wrexham win @ 8/15

15:00 Barnsley vs Bristol Rovers

Suffering play-off heartbreak as they eventually fell to a 5-4 aggregate defeat against Bolton at the semi-final stage last season, Barnsley are once again tipped as a leading top-six contender this time around. Showing no signs of a hangover since opening up the 2024/25 campaign, Saturday’s hosts will be relishing a return to Yorkshire this weekend. Last seen storming their way to a stellar 3-0 romp away at Crawley, Darren Clarke’s men also sprung a real EFL Cup upset last week. Snatching a 1-0 victory against Championship returners Sheffield United, Barnsley have also recorded back-to-back clean sheets for the first time so far this calendar year. Likewise, landing a 2-1 victory when they last welcomed Bristol Rovers to Oakwell back on January 13th, Clarke’s side have also suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous 10 historic meetings against Saturday’s guests – a run that stems all the way back to 1991.

Spending large spells of last season looking over their shoulders, Bristol Rovers are hoping for a smoother campaign this time around. Making a welcomed return to winning ways last week as the secured a 2-0 victory against Cambridge, Matt Taylor’s men will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, failing to collect back-to-back League One victories since the end of February, the Pirates have also continued to show some glaring issues away from the Memorial Stadium. Crashing out of the EFL Cup last month following a routine 2-0 defeat against Championship outfit Cardiff, Taylor’s side have recorded just a single win from any of their previous eight consecutive away fixtures across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to March 2nd. Hit with that 2-1 loss when they travelled to Yorkshire last season, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.

Tip: Barnsley win @ 17/20

15:00 Notts County vs Accrington Stanley

Limping their way over the finishing line last season as they eventually had to settle for a bottom-half finish, many were wondering if Notts County would show any signs of a hangover this time around. Putting in an impressive performance last weekend as they secured a 2-1 victory away at at Swindon, Stuart Maynard’s are unbeaten in each of their first four League Two appearance. Making a statement on August 22nd as they stormed their way to a 4-1 romp against Grimsby, Saturday’s hosts have collected back-to-back wins for the first time since the start of April. It should also be highlighted, continuing on from last season, the Magpies have lost just one of their previous six League Two showdowns in front of their own supporters – a run that stems back to March 23rd. Notching at least a pair of goals in all of their last three matchups against third-tier opposition, Maynard’s side should be smelling a real opportunity here.

Spending large spells of last season looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Accrington Stanley have opened the new campaign in the midst of a public nightmare. Last seen earlier in the week opening their EFL Trophy adventure with a woeful 4-1 drumming at home against Stockport, Saturday’s guests have come under plenty of early scrutiny. Opening proceedings with another 4-1 defeat at the hands of Doncaster on August 10th, the Reds have failed to win any of their first six appearances across all competitions. With their worrying start underlined by a 3-0 loss against Tranmere on August 13th, Accrington have continued to gain a reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. In fact, John Doolan’s side have shipped 18 goals in their first six appearances. It should also be highlight, the Lancashire-based outfit were hit with a 3-1 defeat when they last travelled to Meadow Lane 12 months ago.
