Serbian FA deny racism allegations

The Serbian FA have denied England’s under-21 players were subjected to racist chants while labelling Danny Rose’s conduct as ‘vulgar’.

Rose was visibly upset during the Euro 2013 qualifying match after being shown a red card after kicking a ball into the crowd in frustration.

The Tottenham full-back, on loan at Sunderland, claimed he was subjected to racist chanting by the Krusevac crowd on Tuesday.

Serbia’s FA have denied the claims and blamed Rose for provoking fans.

“While most of the English team players celebrated the score, their player number three, Danny Rose, behaved in an inappropriate, unsportsmanlike and vulgar manner towards the supporters in the stands,” read a statement from the governing body.

“FA of Serbia absolutely refuses and denies that there were any occurrences of racism before and during the match at the stadium in Krusevac.

“Making connection between the seen incident – a fight between members of two teams – and racism has absolutely no ground and we consider it to be a total malevolence.”

Rose detailed his allegations in an interview with Sky Sports News on Wednesday.

“It started when we went out for the warm up. When we started warming over at the opposite side from the bench, they started monkey chanting straight away – in the warm up,” he said.

“In the second half I had two stones hit me in the head when I went to get the ball for a throw-in. Every time I touched the ball they were doing the monkey chanting again.”
