Red Star Belgrade full-back Marko Petkovic has moved to confirm reports that he is set to join Sporting Lisbon.
The Lions had agreed a transfer fee with the Serbian club a week ago, but they were unable to reach an agreement with the player’s representatives.
Nevertheless, it appears the two sides have managed to find an understanding, allowing the Portuguese giants to complete the signing of the talented defender.
Marko Petkovic has confirmed that the deal will soon be wrapped up to allow him to embark on a new challenge in his career.
“Yes, it is quite possible that we will very soon formalize everything,” the Serbia Under-21 international confessed to A Bola.
“I am very happy with this opportunity to represent Sporting and play in the Champions League. Sporting is a great career move.”
The Serbia Under-21 captain has been signed to provide competition for right-back Cedric Soares, who has decided to remain at Estadio Jose Alvalade despite heavy interest from abroad.
Marko Petkovic, 21, has seen his stock rise a great deal over the last couple of years and he leaves Serbia’s most decorated club just one year after arriving from OFK Beograd.
