Sergio Batista, who was appointed as interim manager of Argentina after the World Cup fiasco, is set to sign a four-year deal with Argentine Football Association.
Carlos Billardo, general manager of the national team, was supposed to stage talks with the technical committee on Friday but he instead met with the committee members on Monday, after the death of former AFA president Nestor Kirchner.
They have all agreed that Sergio Batista is the best candidate for the job and AFA president Julio Grondona is expected to announce his appointment after the executive committee meeting later today.
Julio Grondona’s son, Humberto, confirmed on Sunday that there was no other candidate for the coveted job.
“The Commission doesn’t have much to decide having a single good candidate and a person who knows everything. So, we will formally end something that has been talked about for a long time,” said Humberto Grondona.
