Real Madrid midfielder Sergio Canales reveals that he would be more than happy to stay at Mestalla after his loan deal ends at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old joined Real Madrid in July 2010 from Racing Santander, but he was never given a chance to impress at Santiago Bernabeu and was farmed out on loan to Valencia in August 2011.
Canales had a promising start to his career at Mestalla, but he was then forced to miss six months of action after suffering a knee injury.
The player has just returned into action and he is delighted to be playing football again.
“It has been a long time waiting. I really wanted to play and also to return with victory,” Canales was quoted as saying in Marca.
“After so long, almost six months of recovery, I needed to play and get into the team dynamics. And needed confidence to be clear that I can still help the team.”
The promising attacking midfielder admits that he would prefer to remain at Valencia for years to come.
“The first and most important is to finish the year. I’m super satisfied here and happy. Thanks to the club, teammates and fans. That makes me appreciate a lot where I am.
“They make me feel at ease and, if I had my way, I would be next year. But now, the bottom line is to look at every day and enjoy.
“Not thinking about what will happen later. If the Valencia buys me, no problem. For me, everything is perfect.”
Canales has featured in 9 La Liga games for Valencia this season, scoring one goal in the process, and he made his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines in midweek’s victory over Rayo Vallecano.
