Argentina number one Sergio Romero admits he is desperate to leave Sampdoria at the earliest opportunity.
The highly rated shot-stopper returned to Marassi following an unsuccessful loan spell at Monaco, and despite impressing at the 2014 World Cup, he has failed to nail down a regular starting berth.
With Sampdoria boss Sinisa Mihajlovic preferring Emiliano Viviano, the 27-year-old is finally ready to quit the Bluecerchiati.
Romero has also moved to suggest that he was on the verge of joining Benfica this summer, only to see the move fail to materialise.
“In the summer there was a proposal from Benfica, but it was not successful,” Romero told Radio Red.
“Hopefully, the situation will be resolved quickly. Already in January and not in June because I want to play.”
Despite struggling for first team action on club level, Romero produced some stunning performances for Argentina at the 2014 World Cup, helping the side finish as runners up.
He should be in the starting line-up when los Albicelestes face arch rivals Brazil later today, where Gerardo Martino’s side are 13/10 to emerge victorious.
