Hugo Campagnaro starred for Napoli as they overcame 10-man Cesena to win 3-1 at Stadio Dino Manuzzi and go top of Serie A.
The experienced defender, who was involved in serious car crash during the off-season, showed great awareness to pick out Ezequiel Lavezzi with a long throw in the third minute before Roberto Guana equalised for Cesena 22 minutes later.
Cesena were reduced to 10 men when Yohan Benalouane was sent off in the 55th minute and the away side took full advantage of the extra man with Campagnaro sliding the ball home from close range some 12 minutes later.
Marek Hamsik put the game beyond doubt when he slammed the ball past the helpless Nicola Ravaglia in Cesena’s goal with two minutes to play.
Napoli’s victory ensures they club go top of the league following AC Milan’s 2-2 draw with Lazio on Friday and with the rest of the league playing on Sunday.
Napoli next face a tricky trip to Eastlands to take on Manchester City in their opening Champions League group game.
