Newly promoted Novara claimed a shock 3-1 Serie A win over Inter Milan on Tuesday to heap more pressure on Inter boss Gian Piero Gasperini.
Just six days after suffering a 1-0 Champions League defeat to Turkish side Trabzonspor, which was followed by a 0-0 draw with Roma over the weekend, Inter fell behind to a Riccardo Meggiorini goal seven minutes before half-time.
That was where the scoreline stayed until the 86th minute, when Marco Rigoni scored from the penalty spot to put the hosts 2-0 up.
Inter pulled a goal back through Esteban Cambiasso three minutes later to set up a nervous finish for Massimo De Salvo’s men.
But Novara put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, with Rigoni tapping in to secure all three points.
The result is an incredible one for Novara, who two years ago were plying their trade in the third tier of Italian football before successive promotions led them to Serie A.
Gasperini’s nightmare start at Inter continues meanwhile, with last season’s Serie A runners-up having claimed only one point from their opening three league games.
