Estadio Deportivo is reporting that Europa League holders Sevilla have reached an agreement to sign Argentine defender Gabriel Mercado from River Plate.
Only minor details are left to be sorted before the Argentina international completes a move to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with the player currently on his way to Andalucia to undergo a medical and sign a contract.
Sevilla have agreed to pay €2.2 million up front, while another €450,000 will depend on various performance related bonuses.
On top of that, River Plate will be entitled to 20% of the next transfer fee, which is probably why they agreed to such a low amount in the first place.
Gabriel Mercado has spent last four years with the Millionaires, making 138 appearances and scoring 11 goals.
The 29-year-old, who can operate at right-back or centre-back, surprised everyone by scoring two goals for Argentina at the 2016 Copa America Centenario, where los Albicelestes lost to Chile in the final.
