Sevilla chairman Jose Castro has revealed that star player Ivan Rakitic is set to sign a new deal at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
The midfielder’s current contract is due to expire in June 2015, and with Europe’s top clubs casting admiring glances his way, los Rojiblancos are determined to tie him down to a new deal.
And new Sevilla president Jose Castro has admitted that the two sides are very close to reaching an agreement.
“We’ve already had two meetings and I believe we’ve come to a friendly agreement. Both Rakitic and Sevilla have made a big effort to reach this agreement,” Castro told Estadio Deportivo.
“I don’t think there will be any problems in signing the contract in the next few days, one or two details are missing, but the agreement will undoubtedly reach a good conclusion.
“The agreement is clear, we have reached an understanding. There are details to refine but they will not stop Ivan from signing a contract for the next few seasons.”
The fact Rakitic is set to extend his contract with Sevilla doesn’t necessarily mean he will be staying at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for much longer as his release clause is set to be significantly decreased.
The Croatia international is believed to be on Barcelona radar as Tata Martino reportedly sees him as a perfect long-term replacement for star player Xavi Hernandez.
Ivan Rakitic, 25, is enjoying the most successful season of his career and having netted 10 times in 22 league matches, he is 12/5 to score in Europa League clash against Maribor.
