Sevilla are close to agreeing a deal to sign Papu Gomez from Atalanta, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The versatile forward joined Atalanta for a fee believed to have been in the region of €4.5 million in 2014 from Ukrainian side Metalist. Since then, he has made a total of 252 appearances for the club, scoring 59 goals and providing 71 assists for his teammates.
The 32-year-old hasn’t played at all since the 1-1 draw away to Juventus in mid-December, having reportedly had a serious bust-up with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini and lost the captain’s armband. He’s been told to train separately and appears to have played his last game for the club. His contract expires in 18 months.
Sevilla have submitted an official offer, as revealed by Romano, in the region of €5-6m. Personal terms have already been agreed, and the talks between the two clubs are ongoing, but nothing has been agreed yet. Several MLS clubs are interested, as are Hertha Berlin, but Gomez prefers Sevilla.
