Sevilla director plays down Fabiano transfer rumours

(GSM) – Sevilla sporting director Monchi has stated that Luis Fabiano is happy at the club and won’t leave the Andalucians this summer unless his buyout clause is met.

The Brazil striker has been heavily linked with a host of clubs, with Milan considered as his most likely destination. However, Sevilla director Monchi has downplayed rumours of a transfer of their star.

“According to my information, Luis Fabiano will remain with us. I’ve read his words, but I talk constantly with him and he is aware of the position of the club, which until now has not received any formal offers,” said Monchi on the club’s official website.

“If a big club arrives to pay his buyout clause, then the Brazilian will leave. Otherwise he is very happy with us and we do not exclude the possibility of extending his contract.”

The 29-year-old forward, who will be active at this summer’s World Cup, joined Sevilla from Porto in 2005 and has since developed into a key player at Los Nervionenses. His current contract with Sevilla runs until the summer of 2011.
