Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido has backed his side to progress in the Europa League despite trailing in their tie against Porto.
Spanish club Sevilla lost 2-1 at home to Porto in the first leg of their round of 32 match at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pijzuan on February 17.
Portuguese side Porto hold two invaluable away goals – meaning Sevilla must score at least twice in Wednesday’s return fixture at the Estadio do Dragao to reach the last 16.
“It is true that the tie has got more difficult, and we can’t forget that Porto have the advantage from the first leg,” Del Nido said.
“But nobody is going to take away our desire to get through to the next round. It is a hard situation, but I’m sure that Sevilla will give every last drop of sweat in order to stay in this competition.”
“The other day hurt, but we were expecting our opponents to be far superior to Sevilla. Despite the result, I have been given hope by knowing that they are not better than us. We showed on the pitch that we can win, and perhaps we are even superior technically to them.”
“We have to show this in Porto. Nobody should think that Sevilla will throw in the towel.”
