Sevilla need at least a draw with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
The Spanish side are winless in their last five matches in all competitions, and will face a stern challenge at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan against a Dortmund side which leads the Bundesliga by 11 points.
Sevilla lost 4-2 at Group J leaders Paris Saint-Germain in their last match, but will be buoyed by the memory of their win over Dortmund earlier in the group stage.
And president Jose Maria del Nido believes the support of the home fans will see the club into the next round.
“Without being where we want to be, sporting wise, and without being in the best shape for tomorrow’s game, we are ready to face the current German league leaders,” del Nido said.
“We will receive the support of the fans, because without them it will be much more difficult to go through.”
“If we manage to win or draw then we go through. If not, then the Europa League is over for the year. Tomorrow is our moment of truth.”
“Considering the possibility of a lack of confidence would be an act of lacking in confidence. This is what our manager said on the 20th of June.”
Sevilla coach Gregorio Manzano is expecting Dortmund to attack as the Germans must win to make it through to the round of 32, but said form would count for little.
“This is football. Two teams are playing tomorrow to get through to the next round of the Europa League, each in a different state of form. But that doesn’t count for anything tomorrow,” Manzano said.
“It’s a one-off game similar to a final, because Borussia also cannot afford to draw.”
“We have to be intelligent on the pitch, administrating time with and without the ball. We have to play the game with our feet, but also with our heads.”
