Former Real Madrid midfielder Michel is the new Sevilla coach.
Michel will be in charge of the struggling La Liga club until the end of the season but he has been promised a long-term contract if he is able to secure Champions League football for the Andalusian outfit.
Sevilla moved quickly to appoint the 48-year-old Michel after sacking Marcelino on Monday.
Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros had been the favourite to land the job, in what would have been his second spell at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but it is now believed that Sevilla may go back for him in the summer if they do not retain the services of Michel.
Michel coached Getafe from 2009-11 but left last summer after the club did not offer him a new deal.
Michel will preside over his first match on Monday against Real Sociedad, as 11th-placed Sevilla aim to climb up the Primera Division table.
