Sevilla are preparing a fresh appeal to UEFA to have the result of their Europa League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain overturned because of allegations concerning the French club’s goalkeeper Apoula Edel.
“Sevilla are preparing an appeal,” the Spanish club’s lawyer Juan de Dios Crespo Perez told AFP, adding that they had until midday Wednesday to lodge their appeal to European football’s governing body.
“The club’s arguments are secret,” he added.
The 24-year-old Cameroon-born Edel had been accused of falisfying documents to enable himself to play for international football for Armenia, which would have rendered his registration with the Paris club illegal under UEFA regulations.
Sevilla initially appealled to UEFA on the basis of “an alleged registration irregularity” by the PSG goalkeeper, but this was dismissed on September 24.
The goalkeeper first hit the headlines last year when his former coach and agent Nicolas Philibert, who says he coached the player in Cameroon, claimed Edel was 29 rather than 24 and was actually called Ambroise Beyamena.
PSG have also made a claim of defamation against Edel’s accuser.
