Sevilla transfer guru Monchi has moved to reveal that los Rojiblancos wanted to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng and Douglas Perreira.
Los Rojiblancos have become famous for recruiting high-quality footballers for bargain prices and their sporting director has had a key role to play in those deals.
He has now spoken at length about club’s transfer targets, revealing a surprise interest in Barcelona defender Douglas Pereira.
“This summer the plan was to sign Douglas. We’d been impressed with him since he was in Brazil, he dazzled us all,” Monchi told reporters at a Cadena Ser event.
With the 25-year-old having had a largely disappointing start to his career at Camp Nou, Sevilla attempted to lure him to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but the Catalans did not want to let the Brazilian leave with Martin Montoya having joined Inter Milan.
Monchi also spoke about the arrival of Seydou Keita back in 2007, revealing that they only went for the Malian after failing to sign Kevin-Prince Boateng.
“Seydou Keita? He was our second choice. The first was (Kevin-Prince) Boateng but we couldn’t sign him. Keita adapted perfectly from the beginning.”
Sevilla have experienced plenty of problems at the start of the new season, but everybody expects them to come good any time now.
