La Liga giants Sevilla have moved to reveal the main reason why they failed to secure the signature of Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic.
Los Rojiblancos were interested in signing the Montenegro hotshot on a permanent deal after he impressed during the loan stint last season.
However, the lengthy talks failed to produce desired results, and the 27-year-old eventually joined Ligue 1 champions Monaco.
Sevilla chairman Jose Castro has now revealed that the club could not meet Jovetic’s high wage demands.
“We were negotiating for several months,” Castro told Estadio Deportivo.
“We couldn’t agree a financial deal because of his high wage and we’d already made a big effort for Luis Muriel.
“We have (Wissam) Ben Yedder and don’t forget Carlos Fernandez.”
Jovetic scored 7 goals in 24 competitive outings for Sevilla last term, before going on to sign for Monaco in the final days of the summer transfer window.
