Shakespeare expects duo to stay

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare expects both Demarai Gray and Islam Slimani to remain at the club beyond next week’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.

The pair have been linked with a move away this summer though both played and scored as the Foxes thumped Championship side Sheffield United in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.

Bournemouth had been strongly linked with a move for Gray though had a £20m bid rejected earlier this month.

The England U21 international moved to the King Power Stadium half way through Leicester’s title winning 2015/16 campaign but started just one league game that campaign and just nine last season.

Suitors monitoring Slimani’s situation had been put off by the price tag with the East Midlands side keen to recoup as much of the £29m they paid for the Algeria international as possible.
