Shakhtar Donetsk CEO opens up on Fred future

Chief executive of the Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk, Sergei Palkin, fully expects one of the team’s biggest stars Fred to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Brazil international has long been linked with a move to Manchester City as a replacement for out of favour Fernandinho but it appears that City’s local rivals United are also in the running for the €50 million valued man.

The Citizens wanted to bring Fred in January but Shakhtar Donetsk were unwilling to sell their prized asset while still actively participating in the Champions League.

Speaking to the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Sergei Palkin states he firmly believes Fred will end up moving to Manchester.

“Fred will leave in July. If he does not go to Manchester City, he will go to Manchester United. He is ready to play in the strongest league (in Europe).”, he said.

The 25-year-old midfielder confirmed earlier that Premier League remains his first choice and that he would be happy joining City as well as United, Chelsea or Arsenal.
