Odion Ighalo, currently on loan at Manchester United from Chinese Super League side Shaghai Shenhua, has been offered a highly lucrative new contract by his parent club, according to Sky Sports.
United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan and sent Alexis Sanchez on loan the same way, without making any new signing that could possibly play in the centre-forward role. A few months later, an injury suffered by Marcus Rashford left them desperate as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options were cut extremely short. They were close to signing Joshua King from Bournemouth in January, but they eventually chose to take Ighalo on loan for the rest of the season instead.
It’s fair to say that the former Watford striker hit the ground running at Old Trafford, scoring four goals in his first three starts for the Devils. Reports began appearing about United considering a permanent move, but the Shanghai club are obviously reluctant to lose one of their stars and in order to both reward him for his form and keep him away from United’s clutches long-term, they’re prepared to pay him weekly wages which would exceed £400,000.
