New Newcastle manager Alan Shearer is keen on keeping the club in the Premier League.
Shearer took charge of the club last night, but will only stay for the club’s final eight games.
Shearer said: “This is a club I love and I desperately do not want the club to go down. I will do everything I can to try to prevent that.
“It’s a tough situation Newcastle are in. But I believe I can help it along. There is a nucleus of players here that can get this club out of trouble.
“This is for an eight-game spell. I’m looking no further than that. I’m here for eight games only.â€Â
He added: “I got a call over the weekend from managing director Derek Llambias and owner Mike Ashley and went round for a chat.
“They kindly asked if I would take charge for the remaining eight games. I asked for a little time to think and spoke to a few people.â€Â
