Sheffield United and Manchester City kicked off the Saturday action in the Premier League with a tense and tight affair at Bramall Lane. In the end, though, the result was a familiar one as former champions Man City edged out a fascinating 1-0 win. Today, we’re going to take a look at a few of our takeaways from the encounter.
Football is a funny old game
On his 100th Premier League appearance for Manchester City, Kyle Walker put in a Man of the Match performance that was capped off by him scoring the winner. Not only did he score the winner, though, he did so against his boyhood club, and it turns out that it was his first ever away goal in the competition. He didn’t celebrate and he chose to play it down, but this is the kind of moment that reminds us why we all love the beautiful game so much.
Sheffield United in trouble
The Blades have put in a handful of positive performances so far this season but it has only left them with one point from seven games. Thankfully for Chris Wilder there are three or four other clubs that are also really struggling to get off the mark, and while they may not be much of a positive for him at this moment in time, he has to understand that this squad is still capable of fighting their way back from what is turning out to be a relegation battle. Sure, it’s going to be tough, but second season syndrome is always a tricky thing to fight.
Fortunate City?
At this moment in time, Manchester City are the 6/5 favourites to win the Premier League this season with Betfair. Those odds seem a little strange when you take one look at Liverpool’s squad, but given how unpredictable the league has been so far, it makes sense to play it safe with a team like City. Still, this outing served as undeniable proof that there is still a whole lot of work to be done at the club, because they could’ve easily dropped points here for the fourth time in just seven games.
