Sheffield United 1-2 Chelsea: Three Things We Learned

Chelsea have maintained their good run of form under new manager Thomas Tuchel by getting the better of Sheffield United 2-1 away from home in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Mason Mount put the Blues in the lead after 43 minutes when he found the bottom corner following Timo Werner’s cross from the left.

The Blades restored parity at Bramall Lane in the opening minutes of the second half when Antonio Rudiger poked past Edouard Mendy into his own net.

However, Chelsea soon went ahead. Werner was adjudged by VAR to have been brought down by United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, and Jorginho made no mistake from the spot.

The result leaves the Blades in real danger of getting relegated from the Premier League, while the chances of Chelsea finishing in the top four are now rated at 10/11 by Betfair.

Mason Mount is a superstar in the marking

Mason Mount was superb for Chelsea when Frank Lampard was in charge, and the England international midfielder has been brilliant for Thomas Tuchel so far. Mount scored against the Blades and had a very good game overall, as he once again underlined his importance to the Blues. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder looked very bright and imposing in a more advanced role and showed his willingness to make things happen. According to WhoScored, the England international took one shot which ended in a goal, had a pass accuracy of 79.2%, took 73 touches, attempted one dribble, made one tackle and one clearance, and put in five crosses.

Sheffield United are finished

It was always going to be hard for Sheffield United to win against Chelsea, and it did not come as a surprise to anyone that the Blades lost. Chris Wilder’s side are having a torrid time, and although some of their performances and results in recent times have been encouraging, it is hard to see them escape the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season. United are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table and are as many as 12 points from safety.

Chelsea managerial change justified

A lot of Chelsea fans were not happy when club legend Lampard was dismissed. Things were not going well for the team at the time, but many wanted the club hierarchy to keep faith in the former England international midfielder. However, the managerial change has been fully justified now. The London club are now fifth in the table, just a point behind fourth-placed and defending English champions Liverpool. Under Tuchel, Chelsea have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 and have conceded just one goal.
