With a spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s FA Cup up for grabs on Wednesday night, Sheffield United will welcome Bristol City to Bramall Lane in midweek.

Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield United might have put in a spirited display on home soil over the weekend, it was more Bramall Lane heartbreak for Chris Wilder’s side. Knowing that they are in a real uphill battle and would have to defy history if they’re to hang onto their Premier League status this year, the top-flight strugglers should take some solace from their recent improvements. Although Wilder might have seen his side suffer a 2-1 defeat against a resurging Chelsea on Sunday night, the Blades have won five of their last eight matchups across all formats. Shocking almost everyone as they managed to land themselves that stunning 2-1 win away at Old Trafford last month, there is no doubt that United should be smelling a real chance to extend on their FA Cup adventure in midweek.

As for the visitors, slumping back to losing ways and once again showing a string of issues since opening February, Bristol City have only continued to gain a reputation for their glaring inconsistencies. Despite appearing to have immediately found their feet when bringing in Head Coach Dean Holden last year, the Robins have seen their play-off ambitions take another major dent. Putting in another sluggish display over the weekend, Wednesday’s guests were hit with a 2-0 defeat at home against a struggling Cardiff. Losing each of their last three matchups on the bounce, a run also highlighted by a 1-0 loss against relegation scrappers Derby, the Championship outfit should face another stern test when they turn their attention back to FA Cup duties.
