Sheffield United look set to sign Sander Berge from Genk, according to Sky Sports.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Napoli after putting in several fine performances in the Champions League. More recently, reports of interest from the likes Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Burnley have been popping up. But at this point in his career a move to a very interesting Sheffield United side seems much more sensible with game-time, at a team doing very well already, a likely key factor in his further development. As things stand at the moment, he is considered among the leading young talents of Europe, with great potential. This season he has made 23 league appearances for Genk, scoring four goals from his position as a holding midfielder.
Berge has been caught on photo with the Blades’ boss Chris Wilder this morning (Thursday), and it seems that the club are about to match their transfer record to get the deal done. It stands at £20 million which they paid Swansea last summer for striker Olie McBurnie.
