Sheffield United youngster Nicky Travis will play in this season’s Australian A-League after signing a one-year deal with the Central Coast Mariners, the club said on Saturday.
Travis, 22, comes to the Mariners through the club’s link with the English Championship outfit and spent five weeks on trial to earn the contract.
While Travis did not play in the first team during his time at Bramall Lane, he had a brief spell on loan at League One club Chesterfield before suffering knee and ankle injuries.
“Nicky is a fantastic young player and will bring a lot of experience with him, following his apprenticeship with our sister club Sheffield United,” Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman said.
Travis was used as a striker, midfielder and a defender during his time at the Sheffield United academy, giving Mariners manager Lawrie McKinna plenty of options.
