Competition: Irish First Division
Market: Shelbourne to score over 2.5 goals
Odds: 11/10 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves very much battling it out at opposite ends of the First Division table, Shelbourne will make the trip to a struggling Wexford on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out after throwing away the lead against Treaty United on home soil, Wexford find themselves in the midst of a First Division nightmare. Eventually hit with a 2-1 defeat at Ferrycarrig Park on June 11th, Ian Ryan’s side are already sat rock-bottom of the table and chasing a six-point deficit. With it appearing that their much-needed victory against Cabinteely last month was just a minor bounce, The Youths have lost 10 of their 11 second-tier contests since opening the 2021 campaign. With that run highlighted by a 5-0 drumming at the hands of Cork City, it should also be highlighted that Wexford have really gained a reputation for their issues on home soil. Shipping six against UCD back in April, Friday’s hosts have lost all of their home fixtures so far this year.
As for the visitors, while Wexford might find themselves in the midst of a real struggle, Shelbourne are enjoying their own battle at the opposite end of the First Division table. Sat in pole position to book an immediate Premier Division return and looking to do it style, The Reds are already holding an eight-point buffer. With the mood in their camp at a real high and last seen picking up a thumping 4-1 win away at Bray Wanderers, the Dublin-based outfit are yet to taste defeat this season. In fact, winning each of their last five second-tier contests on the spin, Head Coach Ian Morris will be most impressed by his side’s continued performances in the final third. Now bagging a quartet of strikes in back-to-back meetings against Bray and Galway United, there is no doubt that Shelbourne will be looking to extend on their purple patch this weekend.
