Should Manchester City give Roberto Mancini a new contract?

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is willing to open talks on a new contract with the club.

The Italian’s contract expires at the end of next season but he is hoping to extend his stay at the club beyond next season.

Happy

Mancini told the press: “ I have this year and another year on my contract. I don’t want to leave. When the club decides on the contract and, if they are happy and I am happy to stay here, I don’t think we have any problems.

“It’s important for every manager to work well and get good results to take the team to the top. We can improve every year and I’m happy to be here.

Attractive

The Manchester City job is currently one of the most attractive jobs in world football and why wouldn’t Mancini be happy at City? They now have a good squad of players and if the manager needs more players he just asks the mega-rich owners and they seem to arrive.

It’s a bit like fantasy football but with players and fans to keep happy. However it would still be an attractive post to any high profile boss.

Good

City boss Roberto Mancini has done a good job at City. I didn’t think he was the right man for the job at the time but he’s set about proving his doubters wrong, including myself. The Italian has taken City to the top of the Premier League for the first time since the seventies and they are also playing good football.

The likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva have been inspired signings. People may say that anybody could achieve what Mancini has with the money he has had to spend. Or anybody could have signed Silva or Aguero but who knows if the team would have been playing this well under a different boss.

Problems

Mancini has had to deal with a few personnel problems in recent months. The whole Carlos Tevez is ridiculous and I hope he stands by his decision not to select the Argentinian again for City. It sends out a message that he is a strong boss and not prepared to be messed around by anybody.

With big money players comes big egos and he has managed to handle them pretty well. The Italian has also seems to have tamed striker Mario Balotelli. The youngsters attitude seems to have changed for the better in  recent months.

And that has brought the best out of him playing wise. Balotelli has always had the talent but his temperament has been questioned. The Italian could become a truly top player if he can control his petulance and temper.

Title

Manchester City as expected are challenging arch-rivals Manchester United for the Premier League title. That is down to Roberto Mancini putting together a good team, who now have a good team spirit. The quicker they get rid of Carlos Tevez the better though.

He may be a good player but his attitude is terrible. His presence in the squad could unsettle the rest of the squad and distract from their Premier League title challenge. Once he has left the club I think the atmosphere in the dressing room will be even better.

City are in good form and part of that form is down to the managerial skills of Roberto Mancini. Roberto Mancini and Manchester City are a good fit. At such a big club any boss is likely to make mistakes but if Mancini is given the chance I think the Italian will bring City the success they crave.
