Should Manchester United give Cristiano Ronaldo more money?

Various newspapers this morning report that Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United chief executive David Gill are heading for an argument over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sir Alex wants to offer the Portuguese winger a new deal to ensure he stays at the club and doesn’t re-open the Real Madrid saga, but chief executive David Gill does not want to increase the midfielder’s already substantial wages of £120,000 per week.

This is a tough one to call. It would obviously be in United’s interest to keep Ronaldo who looks like he might be getting back towards his form of last season, but can it possibly be right to increase his salary from the already obscene level in the current economic climate?

What do United fans think? Should he be given more or should the club cash in and let him go?

Fuck all those haters of cristiano ronaldo. He should get paid more. hes going to be the best player in the world. thats why manchester is still going its cause of him cristiano ronaldo.

It isnt fair to judge ronaldo like that, slavo. He isnt overpaid, i think he isnt paid well enough. Players like Lampard and Terry earn way more than ronaldo but they aren’t as productive as ronaldo is. He scored 42 goals last season, so who cares about two penalties? Manchester United still won the EPL and Champions league, and his 42 goals was a key factor. And by the way, Man Utd dosen’t rely on one player only. There’s Rooney,Ferdinand,Tevez and many more fantastic players in Man Utd. I don’t think you know what you’re saying.

I think he is overpaid. He did want to leave and if everything for him is just about money-let him go.I do remember he missed 2 very crucial penalties against Barcelona and Chelsea. He is not perfect and one club cannot rely just on one player who even is not loyal.

I think Man U excutive david gill should know that C Ronaldo has done a great job in the team, so he should not think twice about the request. He should let him have his fun in the team by paying the money sir Alex requested for him.

Well I think that Cristiano ronaldo should be payed 30.7 million dollars, because he was injured in the Euro 2008 by the german’s so he didn’t play for a couple of months. He proved to Sir Alex Ferguson that even though you are through your injury you can get back to the top. Cristiano scored a hat-trick against Stoke City. Manchester’s Victory 5-0 against Stoke City. Now with Ronaldo having ankle sugary in July 2009 it will be kind of difficult to win games. Some people say he’s crap Some people are fans (like me).

Being a Manchester United fan and loving the sport. Yes I admit he is a very good player and also makes a difference when he plays, but I think many of these players are playing for the money and not for the love of the sport. So with that said, he shouldnt get more money.

David Gill should agree with fergusion b/c man utd in progression today is b/c of ronaldo p/s increase that boys salary

To be honest, Ronaldo is absolutely not deserved to be paid such huge sum of money. Even currently, he is being paid substantial amount which is already considered to be one of the top salaries around the soccer globe. But, as United fans, we have to admit that when Ronaldo is either injured or out of form, the play of United is badly affected, which means Ronaldo is the most important player in ManU. However, we still get star players like Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez and rising stars like Anderson, Nani accompanied by diligently working Fletcher and on-loan Franzier Campell. By selling Ronaldo, to Real, Ferguson can make replacement in right wing by purchasing Quaresma, Mancini or even Bentley. Perhaps, investing in youth develpment or changing formation will do the job. Aguero can be the best replacement so far.

Hell NO. a mater a fact he was to leave before the season even started, i don’t know why he is still at man utd. his loyalty is not there and if you can see, the ronaldo that i know is no longer at man utd. yes he’s coming of injury but that passion he used to have for the game is not there any more. Right now i CAN’T see ronaldo as a Manchester Player.

ronaldo is good but cannot be in man.u 4 ever. There are many undiscoverd better talents more than ronaldo. Its only when he gives way,u can discover others. He should not hold man.u at ransom for payrise. He is well paid and should know 120,000 is no joke.If he insists, man.u should cash in and let him go.NO PLAYER IS INDISPENSIBLE.

if Man U can not afford Ronaldo, Madrid will be glad to have him. It is as simple as that. He may be overpaid already, but the point is someone is even willing to better his current wage and that is strong enough to lure Ronaldo. To say that he is not a total footballer and all the criticism i have read is unfair for someone Ferguson himself believe was the man behind Man U’s dream run last season. Sir Ferguson is right, lets pump the money and keep our wizard AND WE WILL BE IN A POSITION TO REPEAT LAST SEASON’S FEAT.

I guess its say for unit fans. All united fans and independent soccer admirer’s would agree with me on the fact that Cristiano ronaldo is infact the best available on the planet. As in the first 2 comments, its pity that people are not ready accept this fact. They see cristiano scoring freekicks and penalties only!.So clear up your mind first and ten think, you may get a better picture.Talking about his payrise , its quite evident that losing ronaldo may prove disasters for Manu next season. Its felt right now , united is a supreme power with ronaldo, roney and berbetov up front .But trust me if ronaldo goes of ,they are going to crash. So woudn’t be a bad idea to make him stay. what ever it takes!

Yes he is a great player, but surely it shouldn’t be about the money. To say his financial future is safe would be laughable. Play for the club and the coach who unearthed you at the age of 17.

He is Mr Man u. He deserves a pay rise. For the front runner for Ballon d’or his present pay is puny. His pay could be doubled by Real Madrid who need him badly. I think he will go there if Man u fail to meet him on a pay rise. He doesn’t pay for Arsenal anyway.

I agree, he is rather selfish sometimes and doesn’t always put the team first. When he is on fire that is a good thing for United but so far this season he hasn’t helped as much. Rooney gets back and helps defend more than Ronaldo. Ronaldo doesn’t deserve any more money he is already a rich footballer. You get paid vast sums of money to play a game the whole world loves, that is enough.

  • Roberto

Heck NO! I feel he is overpaid. He is not a total footballer because a team player he is NOT. Sure he is fancy and scores goals but if others had as many chances as he gets to score (free shots, penalties) they would too. In many ocassions he could help others score but he holds the ball too long or takes shots that end up in the crowd. Lately he falls too easy, sulks and complains and of course Ferguson is there to back up his gimmicks. Defensively he sucks. I’d say trade him, get the most money, there are other players who can perform as well if not better.
