Socceroo David Carney has been ruled out of the remainder of Blackpool’s English Premier League campaign with a shoulder injury.
Carney, 27, will leave England shortly to return to Australia for surgery on the injury, meaning he will be unable to help his side in their fight for Premier League survival, with Blackpool currently sitting 17th and just one point above the relegation zone.
He has featured 11 times for Blackpool this season, but has not made an appearance for the club since he scored for Australia in their upset 2-1 victory over Germany on March 30.
“I saw the specialist the other day and he just said he recommends that I should get it done (surgery),” Carney told the club’s official website.
Carney, who has also represented Sheffield United, Norwich City and FC Twente since leaving Sydney FC in 2007, is targeting a return early in the pre-season, which would allow him to be fit for the start of next season.
“I was testing it out and it’s not good – I think there is a bit of bone damage there, so it just needs fixing and hopefully I will be back for pre-season next year,” he said.
