Liverpool have virtually wrapped up the 2019-20 Premier League title since they hold a 22-point lead over Manchester City with nine games left in the schedule. However, they shouldn’t be as relaxed as they might be ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. The Reds will have a tough title rival in Chelsea.

The Blues have already secured the services of Hakim Ziyech and, on Thursday, they announced an agreement to sign Timo Werner. The club confirmed the deal in an official statement on the club’s website, saying the Germany international already agreed to personal terms and that will report at the club during July once the Bundesliga season comes to an end.

Chelsea are doing things right when it comes to transfers

Needless to say, the arrival of Werner gives Chelsea a huge boost in next year’s transfer race. Manchester City’s squad might not look the same if they can’t play in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, Manchester United are still one player or two from competing toe-to-toe with The Reds. Meanwhile, Chelsea have boosted their attacking depth with Werner and Ziyech.

That’s not everything, though. The Blues have also been linked with moves for names such as Said Benrahma and Kai Havertz. They will add to a talented young core that already included Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic.

What will Werner give to Chelsea?

Back to Werner, though. The German star will undoubtedly make a positive impact for Chelsea, and he has proven his worth during the current Bundesliga season at Leipzig. According to WhoScored, no player in Germany’s top-flight has had a direct hand in more Bundesliga goals this season than Timo Werner (34). The 24-eyar-old forward has 26 goals and eight assists to his name.

He can play wide or through the middle, but that doesn’t really matter. Werner always finds a way to make an impact regardless of where he is lined up. His vision for goal is almost unmatched, but he can create for others too. In fact, he has registered double-digit assists in each of the past three seasons (all competitions). Having that kind of striker can make a huge difference for a team looking to win the title.

The Premier League still has nine matches left in the current schedule and it remains to be seen if some of the other top sides will also make moves to bolster their squads. However, Chelsea are clearly ahead of the pack when it comes to doing transfer business. The Blues are taking all the right steps to become an impact team during next season’s title race.
