Silva counting on Tevez impact

Manchester City midfielder David Silva believes team-mate Carlos Tevez could still play a decisive role in the club’s Premier Legaue campaign.

Tevez is in a battle to get fit after publicly apologising to City boss Roberto Mancini and ending his exile from the club.

Silva insists the squad were pleased to see the Argentine and thinks having four top quality strikers could prove pivotal come the end of the season.

“Clearly Carlos is a great player and if he is physically fit he could be very good to have, but it will be down to the coaches and the technical team to decide who plays, who doesn’t and who is important,” Silva said.

“Carlos has shown before that he has a great character and determination, so if he gets into his usual form, which for someone like him will be easier than for others, then yeah he could be (very important in the title race).”

“It is very important to have those four great strikers with us, it makes it easier for the people behind them to play football and we have a lot of great players, so yes that could become an important factor to winning the Premier League.”

Silva, who helped City win the FA Cup title last season, lifted the World Cup trophy with Spain in 2010.

And the 26-year-old says he would rate that triumph equally with a Premier League crown, should City succeed in winning the title this season.

“They are equally important to me (winning the World Cup and Premier League),” he said.

“After winning such an important title as the World Cup, to win the Premier League would be the same.”

“To see the supporters waiting so long in Manchester, to win it would be as important as the World Cup.”

City are locked in a tight tussle with Manchester United for the Premier League title and lead their arch-rivals by two points on the league standings.

The clubs are due to face eachother at the end of April, and while Silva concedes that match could be decisive he expects the title race to go down to the very last round.

“I think for sure Manchester United will be there until the last minute and I think we need to take it game by game and treat each as a final is the key to winning it,” Silva said.

“If we get to that match (with Manchester United) with the same amount of points it could be decisive but we have to get there first, we have to win every match first. But it could be, it could be.”
