(GSM) – Milan defender Thiago Silva believes a win over Roma this Saturday is crucial for their chances of winning the title.

The Brazil international insists that the absence of his injured compatriot Alexandre Pato will not weaken the Rossoneri at the Olimpico.

“It’s a shame. Alexandre was a lightning bolt recently. He was ruthless even in our training games,” Silva told to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I read that we might get him back in time for the match against Manchester United… we hope so. His speed can be decisive against Ferguson’s side.

“Even if United will start from a favourable position, they cannot just think about defending. And if you leave Pato a metre, he strikes you like lightning.”

Asked if Ronaldinho’s exclusion from the Brazil set up has affected him, Silva replied: “It doesn’t seem to me that he is sad. He always smiles in training and creates magic.

“He can leave his mark against Roma. Hopefully with a goal from a free kick.”

Speaking about the Roma match, Silva admitted that it was a topic of conversation while on international duty earlier this week.

“I said to Julio Baptista: we have to win at the Olimpico. If we get three points against Roma then we can win the Scudetto.”
