Former Manchester United and Arsenal centre-back Mikael Silvestre has joined Werder Bremen on a two-year contract, the German club announced on Monday.
“For me, Werder Bremen is a new adventure,” said the 33-year-old France international at his official presentation.
Silvestre had been looking for a new club since his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June.
“From the start of our negotiations, we were on the same wavelength,” said Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf.
“Mickael is hungry and he still wants to win lots of things with us.”
Bremen’s defence has suffered at the start of the season, conceding 10 goals in their last four matches, but they booked their place in the Champions League group phase with a 5-4 aggregate defeat of Sampdoria.
Silvestre began his career at French side Rennes before joining Inter Milan and has 40 international caps, but was not called up to the France squad that competed at the World Cup.
