Sir Alex Ferguson was quick to praise South Africa and its people after Manchester UnitedÂ’s successful tour of the country.
Speaking shortly before their departure for Nigeria where are due to play Portsmouth in a friendly there, he gave South Africa his blessing for the World Cup in 2010.
The club was stunned by the reception that they received at each of the major centres where they were up against local opposition.
He was quick to comment about the enthusiasm of the country’s population and contrary to popular overseas belief they did not witness any ‘ugly’ incident either on or off the field.
Sir Alex was also upbeat about the fact that there was no football hooliganism in the country. If there was one area that could be improved before the World Cup then it had to be the transport system.
The Manchester United boss also said that he was surprised to see that the stadiums were full for each one of the games and that he thought that these fans had to be well catered for during the World Cup.
