Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he is contemplating giving six of United’s reserve team starlets action in the Carling Cup quarter-final versus Crystal Palace.
“The monitoring system here is good and there’s a lot of consistency with our Academy staff,” Fergie told Inside United.
“These are guys that have been here a long time and know what to look for. When somebody like Paul McGuinness comes to me and says: ‘He’s a first-team player’, then I know to keep a special eye on the player.
“From there, we’ll bring the boy into first-team training for a couple of sessions. That’s what we’re doing at the moment with Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison, Jesse Lingard, Zeki Fryers, Larnell Cole and Michael Keane.
“They’re all training with the first team at the moment.
“That allows me to see how they cope playing against seasoned professionals, it lets me judge their temperament,” said Fergie.
“It allows me to get a far better picture of how they’re progressing.
“And, while this is going on, you hope they’re playing well for the Reserves and displaying the right attitude and enthusiasm.
“Players are never simply thrown into first-team action.”
Fryers, Pogba, Cole, and Keane have already appeared in the Carling Cup this season, but United fans have yet to see highly-rated midfielder Ravel Morrison in 2011-12.
Expect three or four of the six to make United’s match-day squad, with Pogba, Fryers, Cole, and Keane the favorites to make an appearance.
In other news, Kenny Dalglish praised his club’s performance versus Manchester City, but the Liverpool boss also admitted that his side deserved three points.
Can you really disagree with him? Surely not.
“The performance was fantastic but I don’t think the players got what they fully deserved,” said Dalglish.
“I think we deserved the three points and quite easily could have won it, but we never managed to.
“We got a fortunate goal but I think that is when our luck ran out. We have played against three or four goalkeepers who have played like that against us this season. Hopefully one day that will change.
“Manchester City started better than us but once we got into it, I think we were the better team.
“I don’t think we could have asked for much more from the players. They were fantastic in the way they went about their job.
“I think the attitude and commitment has been superb almost since the day I came in. That is no surprise, but we also need to remember this is team in its infancy a little bit as well, so they are doing well.”
