“I’m gutted that I can’t finish what we started this season. To experience the love shown to me in such a short time was extra special and it will not be forgotten. I want to thank and wish all the players and staff the best of luck against Sevilla. DAJE ROMA!”

Those are the words of Chris Smalling who confirmed on Twitter that he will not be able to see out the remainder of the club’s Europa League campaign. This comes after the Italian side and Manchester United seemingly failed to come to an agreement on a deal for the Englishman, and while some believe there’s a chance he could go back there next season, it appears as if plans are in place for him to now try and make a name for himself at Old Trafford.

Many Roma fans believe the problem lies with United, but either way, it feels like this saga is still far from over.
