The Netherlands beat Japan 3-0 in an international friendly that remained goalless until deep into the second half. Wesley Sneijder came off injured and may miss the World Cup qualifier with Scotland.

It wasn’t a very entertaining display in the first 69 minutes, but Arsenal’s Robin van Persie then broke the deadlock, handing the Dutch a 1-0 lead.

Wesley Sneijder made it 2-0 four minutes later and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar added a third late on.

There was also bad news however. A foul from Japan’s Honda on Sneijder, had the latter come off injured. The Internazionale midfielder supposedly heard something “crack” in his ankle and manager Bert van Marwijk added that “it doesn’t look good”.

Whether Sneijder is fit in time to play in Wednesday’s qualifier with Scotland, should be clear in the coming days.
