Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder says he wants to stay at Real Madrid, which is seeking to offload him to Inter Milan, Spanish sports paper AS said Friday.
Reports from Italy and Spain have said Real and Inter have reached a deal to sell Sneijder to the Italian club for 15 million euros.
But the 25-year-old Dutch international is unwilling to leave, AS said on its website.
“Sneijder is a Real Madrid player and he wants to stay here,” said his agent Soren Lerby, who was in Madrid Friday to meet with Real bosses, according to AS.
Real president Florentino Perez has splashed out over 250 million euros on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema since he returned to the club in June in a bid to make the nine-times European champions a formidable force again.
But he is now seeking to offload a number of players, including Sneijder, to recoup some of the massive outlay.
Spanish news reports say Real plan to hold on to another Dutchman, striker Arjen Robben, after strong performances in pre-season matches.
Sneijder was signed from Ajax in the summer of 2007 on a five-year deal worth 27 million euros.
