Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has openly criticized manager Bert van Marwijk for being allowed only 25 minutes on the pitch against Scotland last Saturday.
“It’s obvious that I want to play,” the 24-year-old told press agency ANP. “I do understand there are a lot of good players at the Dutch team, for the three positions behind the striker, but that doesn’t mean I enjoy sitting on the bench in a sold out Amsterdam Arena.
“I don’t think that would be good either. I always want to start. Twenty-five minutes against Scotland is not enough for me. I want to show more. That’s why I was angry.”
The Dutch won the match with Scotland 3-0, maintaining their perfect record after four games in Group 9. Next Wednesday, Van Marwijk’s men meet with Macedonia FYR.
