Sneijder, Villa favourites for Golden Ball

(GSM) – Netherlands playmaker Wesley Sneijder is nominated for the World Cup’s Golden Ball award. The Internazionale midfielder, who already scored five goals at the tournament, is favourite to win the prestigious trophy along with Spain striker David Villa.

Sneijder can become the first player ever to win the quadruple on Sunday if he manages to win the World Cup final with Holland against Spain. He already won the Coppa Italia, the Italian title and the Champions League with his club.

FIFA’s technical study group selected a shortlist of 10 players for the prestigious award.

Accredited journalists will vote for the winner who will be announced after the Final between Holland and Spain on Sunday.

Nominees: David Villa, Xavi, Andres Iniesta (Spain); Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben (Holland); Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Ozil (Germany); Diego Forlan (Uruguay); Asamoah Gyan (Ghana); Lionel Messi (Argentina)
